Acceptable Use Policy

1. Illegal or Harmful Activity

You must not use ScholarSync to create, upload, transmit, store or distribute material that:

• violates applicable law;
• facilitates criminal activity;
• exploits or endangers children;
• contains child sexual abuse or exploitation material;
• unlawfully threatens, harasses or abuses another person;
• unlawfully discriminates against or targets individuals or groups;
• violates another person's privacy;
• impersonates another person without lawful authority; or
• intentionally facilitates fraud or deception.

2. Student Safety

ScholarSync must never be used to:

• groom, exploit or sexually communicate with minors;
• publicly expose confidential student information;
• bully or harass students;
• facilitate physical harm or credible threats;
• circumvent school safeguarding requirements; or
• intentionally generate harmful material directed at a student.

Suspected child exploitation or serious threats may be reported or disclosed where required by applicable law.

3. Academic Misconduct

Users must comply with their institution's academic-integrity policies.

ScholarSync may not be used to:

• impersonate another student during an assessment;
• unlawfully obtain restricted examination material;
• alter grades or academic records without authorisation;
• circumvent assessment-security measures; or
• facilitate cheating where prohibited by the relevant institution.

AI assistance should be disclosed where required by the applicable teacher, institution or examination rules.

4. Security Abuse

You must not:

• attempt unauthorised access to accounts or systems;
• bypass authentication or permissions;
• probe or scan ScholarSync without authorisation;
• exploit vulnerabilities;
• distribute malware;
• launch denial-of-service attacks;
• interfere with another institution's data;
• obtain credentials through phishing or deception;
• circumvent rate limits or security controls; or
• disclose vulnerabilities publicly before ScholarSync has had a reasonable opportunity to investigate and remediate them.

Good-faith security research must follow ScholarSync's Responsible Disclosure Policy.

5. Privacy

Users must not upload, collect, disclose or process personal data through ScholarSync unless they are authorised to do so.

In particular, users should exercise additional care with information concerning children, academic records, health information, government identifiers, credentials and other sensitive information.

6. Intellectual Property

You must not use ScholarSync to knowingly infringe copyrights, trademarks or other intellectual-property rights.

Teachers and institutions are responsible for ensuring that materials uploaded to the platform are appropriately owned, licensed or otherwise lawfully used.

7. AI Misuse

Users must not intentionally use ScholarSync AI features to:

• generate unlawful material;
• facilitate student exploitation;
• impersonate individuals deceptively;
• fabricate academic records;
• make automated high-impact decisions about students without appropriate authority and human oversight;
• generate malicious software or facilitate attacks against ScholarSync or educational systems;
• systematically extract AI functionality or outputs for unauthorised competitive replication; or
• intentionally circumvent ScholarSync safety controls.

8. Automated Access and Scraping

Bots, crawlers, scripts or other automated systems may not access ScholarSync in a manner that:

• exceeds published rate limits;
• circumvents access controls;
• substantially burdens the Service;
• extracts protected student or institutional information; or
• copies substantial proprietary portions of ScholarSync.

Authorised integrations using ScholarSync APIs are permitted subject to applicable API documentation and contractual terms.

9. Communications

Communication functionality must not be used for spam, unsolicited commercial advertising, harassment, phishing, malware distribution or other abusive messaging.

10. Enforcement

Depending on the nature and severity of a violation, ScholarSync may:

• warn the user or institution;
• restrict particular functionality;
• remove or disable unlawful or prohibited material;
• suspend an account;
• terminate access;
• preserve relevant records where legally required; or
• cooperate with lawful requests from competent authorities.

Where appropriate, institutional administrators may be notified so they can address misuse under their own policies.

11. Reporting Abuse

Suspected abuse, security issues or violations of this AUP may be reported to:

12. Changes

ScholarSync may update this AUP to address new functionality, threats, legal requirements or misuse patterns.

Material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
